Why Is My BP Not Controlled?

Most hypertension is "Essential" (genetic/age-related), but "Secondary Hypertension" affects many, especially younger patients or those with sudden onset issues. This type of BP is caused by a specific medical condition in the kidneys, arteries, heart, or endocrine system.

Red Flags for Secondary Hypertension

• High blood pressure onset before age 30 or after age 50.
• Blood pressure not controlled despite taking 3 or more medications.
• Sudden worsening of previously controlled BP.
• Snoring and daytime sleepiness (Sleep Apnea).

We conduct a systematic workup to rule out causes like Renal Artery Stenosis, Primary Aldosteronism, Sleep Apnea, and Thyroid disorders. Treating the underlying condition often cures the hypertension or drastically reduces the need for medication.
